Respiratory Muscle Training (RMT)
Introduction
POWERbreathe has a range of respiratory muscle training (RMT) devices that are designed to strengthen your breathing muscles, reduce breathing fatigue and improve your quality of life.
The POWERbreathe breathing trainer strengthens your respiratory muscles using a technique called resistance training. Your respiratory muscles are the muscles you use to breath in and out.
The device creates a resistance to your in-breath, which makes your breathing muscles work harder. Think of it in the same way as you might use weighted dumbbells to strengthen your biceps.
The POWERbreathe RMT device has been proven in more than 100 scientific studies over the past 20 years to benefit the breathing function of many groups. Whether you’re looking to improve your sport performance, aid recovery after surgery, or expand vital capacity with singing, POWERbreathe is a great choice for you
The Plus model is POWERbreathe’s second generation of Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) devices and features several design advancements compared to the Classic model. The breathing training is more effective with the POWERbreathe Plus due to its optimized airflow.
It boasts 11 adjustable levels, meaning its resistance can increase as your inspiratory muscles grow stronger. Another improvement of the Plus is its ergonomic mouthpiece, which is softer, making breathing training more comfortable.

The POWERbreathe Plus has 11 adjustable levels. The levels refer to the amount of resistance you will feel on your in-breath. The range between each training level is quite small, making it more manageable to advance to the next resistance when you’re comfortable.
As you become stronger and fitter, the resistance may stop challenging you. At this point, it’s time to increase the resistance. When you can cope with the highest level of resistance, move onto the POWERbreathe Plus Medium Resistance or Heavy Resistance device to continue strengthening your diaphragm.
The POWERbreathe Plus is the second generation of mechanical breathing trainers and features the following design improvements:
